History Sculpture Commission, Queen Elizabeth Hospitals Birmingham
Deadline: December 9, 2011
History Sculpture Commission, Queen Elizabeth Hospitals Birmingham
The new Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham (QEHB) opened in June 2010 and is pleased to announce a commission opportunity for an artist or designer to develop artwork reflecting the history of University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB) and the hospitals that now form part of UHB.
It is envisaged that the artwork will be immediately outside the main entrance of the new QEHB. We are seeking expressions of interest from artists or designers with experience of public art projects, ideally with experience of working in healthcare settings and with at least three years of graduate experience.
The QEHB, which is now the UK's largest single-site hospital, employs approximately 7,000 staff and cares for around 700, 000 patients per year. There is a dedicated Arts steering group who commission works and evaluate the arts programme. Art in its various forms plays an important role in patient recovery, experience and well-being and also contributes to the ambience and design of the hospital and supports innovation.
