Lead Artist Opportunity - Milton Keynes

Milton Keynes Council (MKC) Arts Unit wishes to appoint a Lead Artist to work with the design team for the East Expansion Area (EEA) of Milton Keynes. MKC Arts Unit are managing this public art project on behalf of a consortia of stakeholders including Places for People, Gallaghers Estates, David Locke Associates, Milton Keynes Partnership and the MKC schools capital team

The Lead Artist will be appointed in May 2009 for a period of 6 months. However, we are seeking an artist who is able to have a long-term relationship with the area as it is developed. The Lead Artist will work collaboratively with the design teams to help create an identity for the new community, develop detailed plans for 3 commissions and consider how the emerging community can be involved with public art and creativity in the future. 

The Eastern Expansion Area is a planned extension of Milton Keynes.  The site covers 224ha, and will have 4,000 new homes.  The development will be very varied with picturesque water meadows and a city street, two primary and one secondary school, and significant areas of public open space and leisure amenities.
