New South Glasgow Hospitals, Artists Brief

Deadline: September 19, 2011, 5:00 pm

Wayfinding is key to the patient, visitor and staff experience of healthcare environments.

The selected artist/designer or team undertaking this project will develop two vital elements of the overall wayfinding strategy for the New South Glasgow Hospitals. One aspect is to create sixteen (16) landmarks on key journeys through the Podium (the 3 storey 100,000sq.m. part of the complex housing the major departments). The second element is to create a series of six (6) feature walls at key thresholds within the Children’s Hospital and one (1) feature wall externally adjacent to the Children’s Hospital Accident & Emergency Department entrance.
This project needs to offer an overall narrative for landmarks within key parts of the buildings, and deliver sequences of artworks. Patients, visitors and staff will use these artwork landmarks as key moments on journeys.

Expressions of interest are sought for a lead artist/designer or a team to develop this key project in close collaboration within Nightingales Associates’ overall Wayfinding Strategy.

Approximate total value of the installed work: £140,000 ex vat.

The brief is available to download from www.ginkgoprojects.co.uk/opportunities.

The deadline for applications is 5pm Friday 19 September 2011. Electronic submissions only to [email protected]
Work to be finally installed by the end of Summer 2014.
