Open call for idle women

idle women has announced an open call for an artist to join them for a spring residency in 2016. This will be the first live-in residency living and working onboard their newly built arts and resource space on a canal narrow boat designed by muf architecture/art in collaboration with local women from Lancashire.

The project is seeking a socially motivated artist with collaborative practice to stay and work with them for three months. Working with women and girls in and around the Burnley area and being supported by the two idle women caretakers.

This residency is open to women artists who work across a range of practices including (but not exclusively) spoken word, theatre, visual arts, digital platforms, film, photography, dialogical practice and performance.

Dates and details

  • Application deadline 6pm Thursday 10 December
  • Shortlisted interviews 14 December in London (travel cost paid for those outside of London)
  • Residency dates full time for three months March – May 2016
  • Fee £6,000 & additional funds for costs during residency and/or production.

Sending  the following:

  • Your contact details, date of birth and any accessibility needs you have
  • Confirm your availability for interview and residency period
  • Include up to four images/links to/of/from previous work and a link to your website if you have one
  • A letter of application (no more than two sides of A4) telling us why you would like to apply and include the following 4 points:
  1.  A description of your work/artist biography
  2. Describe your typical working practice or a past project (something your most proud of)
  3. Tell us why working on a women’s project is important to you
  4. The first idle women residency is about the architecture of women’s space/place, how might you frame your residency to follow on from this?
