Public Art Commission for New Royal Liverpool University Hospital: Waiting Rooms

Deadline: June 3, 2015, 9:00 am

Carillion Construction plc on behalf of the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust seeks expressions of interest from experienced and suitably qualified artists in developing artworks for waiting rooms in the new Royal Liverpool University Hospital due to open in 2017.

There will be a series of eight commissions for important waiting areas for the following specialist departments across the hospital: Accident & Emergency, Critical Care, Renal, Mammography, Haematology, Endoscopy, Radiography and the Discharge Lounge. All the locations are places where people may experience stress and are likely to spend extended periods of time.  The aim of the commissions is to contribute to environments that help calm, distract and engage patients, relatives and friends and contribute to a positive visual environment for staff.

The Arts Strategy for the new hospital is about bringing the creativity, imagination and practical skills of artists to help create a new Royal with a strong sense of place and identity, where the environment both inside and outside the hospital building meets the emotional and human needs of the people who use the Royal – patients, visitors, staff - as well as supporting the essential clinical and practical requirements of a 21st century ‘world class hospital’ with ‘world class services.’

Artists interested in being considered for these commissions are invited to send up to 20 images of recent work, a current CV and a brief expression of interest – no more than 250 words please - to Carillion's Arts Consultants, Art in Partnership, at the address below by 3rd of June. Please indicate if you have a particular interest in working with any one of the above departments. Shortlisting of artists will take place between June and September and all shortlisted artists will be contacted before 30 September. There is a budget of up to £10,000 for each commission.

All images should be sent on CD with supporting information to Robert Breen at the address below or in a single document folder via Dropbox.
