ixia has taken over the ownership and management of Public Art Online from Arts Council England. The design and content of the website are currently being reviewed.

Public Art Commission, A2Dominion/Rydon/OPEN Ealing

Expressions of Interest are invited from artists to create a permanent artwork for the entrance to a new development in West Ealing. The site is the gateway entrance to a mixed-occupancy housing development.

(H = 5.17m x W = 9.24m x D = 11.5m) 

Budgets

Gateway: c.£24,000 including design [of both interior surface of arch and gate] plus materials, fabrication (offsite) and surface preparation, installation by approved contract labour (onsite) [materials, fabrication, installation etc relating to interior arch surface artwork but not gate]

Gate: To be confirmed/discussed

Email expressions of interest to be sent to: [email protected] ("GML Public Art" as subject line) by the 30th of January 2015, including a c.v. which demonstrates relevant experience and budget management (where applicable) and up to 6 examples of previous work (up to 3 images of each work to show different views is acceptable). Image files (max 2MB each) should be titled as follows:

ARTIST’S-SURNAME_Title_Commissioning-Body/Client_Year

Images should be accompanied by a text document listing projects, using filenames for identification. Please add urls for any relevant websites to this document

NB: No specific designs are required at this stage. This Call to Artists is stage 1 of the submission process (draft stage 2 information below for reference only).

[Draft] Information: In stage 2, drawings and other details will be sent out to shortlisted artists with an invitation to present their ideas. Artwork proposal to be approved by April 2015 before brickwork on the block begins (Designs from shortlisted artists to be submitted by end of March 2015).

The commissioners will be interested in seeing proposals that include:

  • Costed design
  • Technical specifications for the gate
  • Fabrication of gate will be undertaken by an approved contractor. This may be discussed under separate budget if artist has experience of such fabrication projects
  • Use of tiles, panels or other elements (flat or low-relief) for interior surface of gateway, to be created off-site, then affixed by the project’s contractors to the rendered archway
  • Durability, climb + graffiti-resistance, low maintenance
