Weymouth & Portland Borough Council, on behalf of New Look Ltd., is looking to commission an experienced artist with a demonstrable track record of producing permanent work for installation in the public realm for the new Weymouth Gateway development at Mercery Road to the north of Weymouth town centre.
Construction is currently taking place on phase one of the building work, including; the provision of New Look's head office (to replace the company's existing buildings); a Whitbread hotel and restaurant and; a Sainsbury store and petrol station.
This is an open brief for which expressions of interest are invited from artists experienced in creating quality, contemporary and integrated artworks for the external public realm. The artist will be expected to have strong partnership-working and be adept at negotiation. Creative community engagement skills are essential as is the ability to interpret the resulting themes and aspirations and ensure that these inform the artist's final work.
The total budget available will be £60,000.
