UK Young Artists Open Call for Submissions

Deadline: June 30, 2014, 5:00 pm

UK Young Artists, an organisation created to showcase and support the development of young artists aged between 18 and 30, is launching a call-out for submissions for young artists to take part in a three-day showcase event in Leicester in November.

This third biennial showcase from UK Young Artists will take place between Friday 7th and Sunday 9th November 2014. Leicester will play host to around 70 young artists who will present their work to the public at venues in and around Leicester’s Cultural Quarter with events taking place in both established venues and independently run spaces.

The young artists selected to take part in UK Young Artists Leicester Festival 2014 will also have the opportunity to come together to take part in workshops, debates and symposia to encourage cross-discipline discussion and explore the potential of collaboration.

Providing the support young artists need to develop their approach to creativity is at the heart of what UK Young Artists is all about. One of UK Young Artists alumni, Benjamin Duvall of Ex-Easter Island Head, agrees, “It's safe to say that our involvement [with UK Young Artists] really had an impact on how we view our whole practice and the experience continues to inform what we do on quite a fundamental level.”

Artists can submit work that has already been presented to the public, as this is not a commission-based opportunity. A panel of creative and cultural practitioners including academics at each of the partner universities and curators and programmers at the host venues will assess submissions.

Successful artists will be expected to attend the whole event and participate in the accompanying programme of professional development opportunities. In return UK Young Artists will showcase their work and provide accommodation for the duration of the event along with a range of opportunities to further their artistic practice.

The call-out for submissions will run from week commencing 26 May with a closing date of 5pm on Monday 30 June. Artists will need to upload examples of the work they hope to showcase at the Leicester event and there is a non-refundable administration fee of £12 per submission.

All submissions must be completed using the online form accessible via the UKYA website.
