Unity Hall Public Art Commission, Wakefield, Beam
Deadline: February 11, 2013, 9:00 am
In 2011, Unity House (Wakefield) Ltd was established as a community benefit society with the aim of raising sufficient funds to convert the Grade II listed Unity Hall, empty for a decade, into a music, events, gallery and creative business centre for Wakefield. Click here for more information.
The Hall is located in the centre of Wakefield on Westgate, opposite the Theatre Royal Wakefield and is ideally placed close to the mainline Wakefield Westgate Railway Station (£12m refurbishment planned for 2013). The raising of finance is almost complete for the Unity Hall project and the plan is to be on site in May 2013 with the Hall opening in Spring 2014.
With Arts Council assistance the steering group are seeking an artist to design a piece of public art for the Hall with the input of shareholders, local residents and the local arts community. In addition the appointed artist will be required to advise the Design Team on the layout and working of the Hall’s exhibition areas and other interior design aspects of the project as appropriate.
Beam has been appointed by Unity Hall to advise on and manage the artist selection process for this project.
