Lumiere 2013
Durham: 14th-17th November
Derry: 28th November-1st December
Artichoke will soon be revealing the full programmes for its 2013 Lumiere festivals.
Durham
Lumiere will be returning with a raft of installations and projections to illuminate Durham's buildings, streets and bridges. Local and international artists, lighting designers, and community groups will breathe new light into the city with a series of lightworks.
2013's festival is certain to be just as popular with artworks sprawling right across the city in a sprinkle of winter magic. The light creations will range from large-scale projections, to neons, to installations using the latest LEDs, created by artists and lighting designers from near and far including pieces created by artists from the North East as part of the Brilliant competition.
Lumiere is brought to you by Artichoke, and returns to Durham at the invitation of Durham County Council. Together, the 2011 and 2012 festivals attracted 225,000 people to the city and generated £5.8 million for the local economy.
Derry
Lumiere will also be providing a finale to the Derry~Londonderry City of Culture 2013 programme from 28th November – 1st December. The Lumiere festivals in Durham and Derry are being individually curated.
"I am sure both Derry-Londonderry and Durham will be spectacular events. It has been a huge success when it has been staged here and people will already be putting the dates into their diaries to ensure they do not miss out.” Simon Henig, Leader of Durham County Council.
