‘Monarchy’ by London Fieldworks and ‘Fold’ by Lee Patterson
Date uploaded: September 5, 2011
Monarchy: an exhibition of film and photography, will open at Stour Valley Arts Gallery, 3-5pm on Saturday 10th September and continues until 15th October.
In 2008, London Fieldworks created Super Kingdom, an installation of animal houses set deep within the ancient woodland of King’s Wood. Monarchy sees these imperious structures re-purposed as a film-set across which a version of the seasonal narrative is traced. The bleak winter hibernation period gives way to the newness of the spring melt which brings with it an unexpected influx of exotic animal life. Accompanying the film are two series of photographs which further address issues of urban spread and species migration.
Monarchy was awarded an Honorary Mention in the Hybrid Art category of the Prix Ars Electronica 2010.
Fold: a performance by Lee Patterson, will take place in KIng’s Wood at 7pm on Saturday 10th September. In 2010, Lee Patterson realised the first phase of his Stour Valley Arts residency with Elemental Fields a location specific sound installation in a disused urban building in central Ashford. Patterson has continued his sonic investigation, uncovering a hidden soundscape in King’s Wood. Fold is a new composition resulting from these field recordings. He will perform live with three other musicians - Angharad Davies, Matt Davis and Patrick Farmer.
