1395 Days without Red
Šejla Kamerić and Anri Sala
29 September - 23 October
Atmospheric and deeply affecting - Adrian Searle, The Guardian
One woman's journey through a city under siege. Sarajevo, Sniper Alley. The trauma is relived through the stop and start of a journey accompanied by the stop and start of music. The woman hears the music in her head. It gives her the courage to go on…
The Siege of Sarajevo between 1992 and 1996 lasted for 1395 days. Citizens were advised not to wear bright colours, for fear of alerting their movements to the snipers watching from the hills above.
1395 Days without Red was conceived, developed and filmed as a collaborative film project by Šejla Kamerić and Anri Sala. The project has given life to two separate films. Both films are being shown by Artangel in London this autumn.
And don’t forget that these films continue to show in Manchester at the Whitworth Art Gallery until 4 September alongside works from the Artangel Collection including Atom Egoyan’s Steenbeckett and Francis Alÿs's Seven Walks. Click here for more information.
