At Home In The World
A Per Cent for Art Public Project by Ceara Conway in Killane Drive, Edenderry
Artist Ceara Conway has spent seven months working with the residents of Killane Drive, Edenderry, collaborating with them to create an interactive feature and focal point in the green. There are 25 stainless steel bird house sculptures among 49 new saplings, one for every household.
I’d been inspired by several things, watching where the kids played showed me that we needed to attract them off the road, and some residents mentioned the lack of birds because the estate was so new and without trees, I also took in the residents expressing how they didn’t all know each other quite yet. However sophisticated we become as human beings at the end of the day when we make a home it’s the same principle as nesting, and that takes time.
