Date uploaded: January 15, 2014
Strange Cargo are pleased to announce the second Cheriton Light Festival - to be held over the weekend of the 22nd and 23rd February 2014. Cheriton will be illuminated on each evening between 6pm and 9pm and the high street closed to traffic, as Cheriton Lights Festival reclaims the streets of this Folkestone suburb, bringing high quality, exhilarating artworks to people’s doorsteps.
Funders for the event: Arts Council England, Paul Hamlyn Foundation, Roger De Haan Charitibale Trust, Tory Family Foundation, Folkestone Town Council, Shepway District Council, Interreg European Funding, L’Ecole d’Art du Calaisis and Kent County Council. Cheriton Light Festival Travel Partners are Stagecoach South East.
The FREE event, which has secured a funding partnership led by Arts Council England, manifests itself as a true celebration of the arts in the public realm, pulling together both national and international artists whose light works will bring a sparkle to the chill, dark February nights.
Strange Cargo’s Artistic Director Brigitte Orasinski says – “Cheriton Lights is a light festival with a difference. We are bringing the extraordinary experience of quality visual arts to the streets where people live and we have commissioned a number of new artworks that have grown out of the history of the town and its people. This will be a weekend of stimulating, participatory artistic encounters, to thrill the heart and warm the soul”.
Organisers Strange Cargo and Cheriton Light Festival Transport Partners, Stagecoach South East are encouraging visitors to the festival to use public transport.
