FLORENCE PEAKE: New performance at Longside Gallery, Yorkshire Sculpture Park
07.04.12 / 17.00 / Free

Florence Peake presents MAKE, a new performance inspired by behind-the-scenes activity at Yorkshire Sculpture Park, taking an irreverent look at how sculpture is created, displayed and maintained.

Peake is interested in Minimalism and Conceptual Art and in the masculine heroes of these canons, Richard Serra, Donald Judd, Carl Andre. In this work, Peake will choreograph performers as they create a monolithic structure, ritualising, parodying and exposing the making process.

The performance will be preceded by impromptu happenings in the landscape and two development workshops Materials for Making. Click here to find out how to take part.

With a background in dance, Peake's performance practice includes the use of drawing, painting and sculpture materials combined with found, appropriated and fabricated objects in relationship to the moving body. Recent work includes Paper Portraits at National Portrait Gallery and Secrets and Other Pastimes at Toynbee Studios.

MAKE is the result of a 2010 collaboration between the Live Art Development Agency and YSP. It is funded by Arts Council England Grants for the Arts, and produced by YSP in partnership with Dance Art Foundation.
