Subplots to a city
Subplots to a city brings together four temporary public artworks by artists with a connection to Preston: David Henckel, Iain Broadley, Lisa Wigham, and Jeni McConnell and Hannah Elizabeth Allan, who work together as Collaborative Space.
Using Preston as a starting point, the artists have developed multilayered projects, which tell new stories about the city and reveal it as a portal to other people, times and places. The artworks have been commissioned by In Certain Places to coincide with Preston Guild 2012. They include a performance inspired by the Gates of Paradise in the Harris Museum & Art Gallery; an alternative ‘sub-culture’ presence within two of the Preston Guild processions; a quiet intervention in Preston’s railway station waiting room; and the creation of a new beer to celebrate the Transit of Venus.
The projects will be launched at a series of free public events during the Guild week:
Saturday 1st September
The Transit of Venus by David Henckel

5pm – 8pm, Craft brewing competition – The Continental, South Meadow Lane.
