Swing It! The Orangery, Wakefield

Date uploaded: June 16, 2014

The back garden of The Orangery, Wakefield has been transformed this summer by Swing It!, an interactive outdoor art installation commissioned by Beam and installed by the artists Morag Myerscough and Luke Morgan. This new artwork for Wakefield offers a unique experience in the heart of the city, encouraging play, creativity, and inspiration. The launch event takes place on Thursday the 10th of June 2014, from 6pm to 8pm.

Swing It! includes bespoke vividly coloured and patterned swings and moving seats at ground level. Their momentum, specially made mechanical handles, and sheer windpower make signs and banners move brightly overhead. The eye-catching hand-painted signs can be seen at street level and feature words and phrases, which recall people’s memories and experiences of ‘play’. Come join in!

Visitors are invited to join artists Myerscough and Morgan, for the launch party for ‘Swing It!’, at The Orangery Wakefield. Drinks, canapés and live music from acoustic roots duo ‘Mambo Jambo’ will be served, to celebrate the opening of this unique new art space in the heart of Wakefield.
