The City of Vancouver announces the launch of "re:CONNECT"
an open ideas competition for the Viaducts and Eastern Core
re:CONNECT invites the citizens of Vancouver, to join with local and international designers to ignite discussion and dream new possibilities for the future of the Viaducts and the City's broader Eastern Core. It’s your city, shape its future! The Eastern Core stretches from Main Street in the west to Clark Drive in the east, Prior in the north and Great Northern Way in the south, and some of the immediately adjacent boundary areas. Housing much of Vancouver's industrial community, the area also houses artists, production studios and workshops, multi-tenant studio buildings and the industries that support artists and the cultural community.
The purpose of the competition is to open the ideas generation process to the public, cultural and design community. While no decisions on the future of the viaducts or eastern core are being made through re:CONNECT, fresh, new ideas from citizens and design professionals will spark dialogue and help inform and inspire planning for this part of Vancouver. A planning process for the Viaducts and the Eastern Core is now underway with a high level strategy expected in late spring 2012.
The competition will run through November 4th 2011.
