Civic Aesthetics Unleashed
23 October 2009, 7-8.30pm, Siobhan Davies Studios, London
What does it mean to make artwork for spaces that are not purely dedicated to the viewing of art?
What are the utopias that artists can bring into the public ground?
How can we use aesthetic interventions to make the world a better place?
Following her exhibition at Siobhan Davies Studios in June, Flore Nove-Josserand will pilot a discussion between several experts about their experience of introducing art into public spaces. Audience participation is welcome.
Panelists include:
- Will Alsop - architect with a long experience of working with art and artists.
- Lothar Gotz - visual artist with an extensive practice of designing large-scale, geometric wall paintings for private and public spaces.
- Vivien Lovell - art consultant and founder/director of Modus Operandi, a company that lobbies for, promotes, commissions and supports art projects in the public realm.
- Susanne Thomas - choreographer and artistic director of the dance company Seven Sisters Group, which has performed many site-specific works since 1994.
- Flore Nove-Josserand - visual artist with a practice rooted in painting, installations and site specific work that has to do with questioning, or reacting to, the space in which it exists.
