Elephants: Chantal Oakes

As part of a month-long exploration into how archives and contemporary diverse audiences can interconnect, the In Certain Places Project Space will host an event entitled ELEPHANTS on Monday the 20th of October from 3.30pm to 7.30pm at 38 St Peter's Street, Preston. Chantal Oakes will present extracts from an on-going durational artist’s diary, to explore the catalytic values and alchemy of mixing public and private memory.
The event will explore the following questions; do public and private archives and collections contain or confine cultural memories? Does archival material now make the production of culture more or less inclusive?
The event will take place in association with the Harris Museum & Art Gallery for Black History Month 2014.
