Free talk on the Tees Valley Giants public art initiative
June 24, 2009, 2:00 pm
The Tees Valley Giants public art initiative is a project that will involve a series of five world class art installations by internationally acclaimed sculptor Anish Kapoor and leading structural designer Cecil Balmond. The artist and engineer are known for the monumental scale of their work and are two of the most sought after names in the art world.
A free talk focusing on the project will be given by Sean Egan, Project Director, Tees Valley Regeneration, from 1.00pm to 2.00pm on Wednesday 24 June in the Centuria Building, Tees Valley University.
Admission is free and there is no need to book.
The first installation, Temenos, is to be located at Middlehaven and will be a staggering 110m in length and almost 50m high. Temenos is funded by government initiative The Northern Way, regional development agency One North East, Arts Council England, Northern Rock Foundation, Middlesbrough Football Club and BioRegional Quintain.
Speaking about the project, Sean Egan said: ‘It has always been our pledge to bring only the best to the Tees Valley and to have people of this calibre working on not just one, but five installations, is a resounding result for the area.’
The talk is part of the University’s Culture on Campus series of events. For further details visit Culture on Campus or email [email protected].
