Haystack05: Hunting Wild Boar by Phone
A conversation about food in the city with architect Katrin Bohn and artist Kathrin Böhm
Thursday 26th September
6pm-8pm
Queen Elisabeth Hall, Roof Garden, Southbank Centre, London
Haystack05 invites you to think about and discuss the future of urban food growing. The event starts at 6.00pm with a tour of the roof garden by Julian Cox. At 6.30pm Katrin Bohn and Kathrin Böhm will present and discuss recent projects and research into urban food production.
The architect and planner Katrin Bohn has been researching and developing the practicalities of urban agriculture for more than a decade. Together with Andre Viljoen she has developed the concept of Continuous Productive Urban Landscapes (CPUL) and the practical and conceptual conditions for implementing these within large scale urban planning, with London being the first example for their hypothesis. Katrin is a professor for urban planning at the Technical University in Berlin and teaches architecture at the University of Brighton.
Kathrin Böhm is a London-based artist who in 2011 together with myvillages.org produced the "Vorratskammer (Pantry)" project which sourced food from and around Berlin to feed a large festival on culture and sustainability. The artistic team refused to use organic and local as determinant criteria in their search for food. The food collected and served reveals and makes use of the plenitude of contradictions and complexities in our food chains. Kathrin is a founding member of the art and architecture collective public works and the artists group myvillages.org.
Katrin Bohn and Kathrin Böhm have known each other for years and their work overlaps in many areas. They receive e-mails and post for each other and decided in January 2012 to organise a joint talk with both their names next to each other.
Haystack05 is organised by Kathrin Böhm, Katrin Bohn and Julian Cox, Garden Volunteer and Participation Coordinator for the Soutbank Centre gardens.
Refreshments and snacks from the gardens will be served. The talk will take place in a covered section of the garden, so will happen whatever the weather.
