Scale, a Gathering of Sculptors

5th-7th June 2012, Blue Star Contemporary Art Center, San Antonio, USA

Blue Star Contemporary Art Center is pleased to present Scale: A Gathering of Sculptors, an international conference featuring eight renowned sculptors from five countries who will present their work. This symposium offers a unique opportunity to interface, network and partake in dialogue with international artists and Public Art Network representatives.

Tickets are $75 per person and $50 for ISC members. They can be purchased on the Blue Star Website at: http://bluestarart.org/events/view/98.

On June 5, 2012, from 3:30 until 7:00 p.m., Texas sculptor Jesús Moroles and Icelandic Sculptor Gudjon Bjarnasson will present their work and lead a question and answer dialogue, followed by a panel discussion with public art network officials. After this symposium is a barbeque and beer reception at Lonestar Studios from 7:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. The next day, June 6, 2012, the conference will begin at 8:30 a.m. with coffee and breakfast tacos. The subsequent sculptors will present their work and also lead a Q & A discussion; the conference will adjourn at 4:50 p.m. A cocktail and dinner reception will follow at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) campus from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.

On June 7, 2012, there will be a concluding reception at Blue Star Contemporary Art Center from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m., co-hosted by Public Art Network and UTSA.

This conference is supported by the National Endowment for the Arts, Public Art Network of the Americans for the Arts, Sculpture Magazine and co-hosted by the University of Texas at San Antonio.

The panel of sculptors represents great diversity and international breadth. Participating sculptors are: Phillip King, an ISC lifetime Award recipient from the United Kingdom; Alice Aycock, USA; James Surls, USA; Masayuki Koorida, a Japanese sculptor residing in China and the Director of the acclaimed Shanghai Sculpture Park; Ivano Vitali, Floence, Italy; Jesús Moroles, USA; Joan Hall, USA and Gudjon Bjarnason, Iceland.
