ixia: Public Art and the Planning Process Workshops (London)

November 6, 2008

RIBA, London

ixia is running a series of workshops throughout England to deliver guidance on the content of a Supplementary Planning Document for public art.

In response to the Government's changes to the planning process and ixia's review of the ways that local authorities in England secure public art via the planning process, ixia and its partners have developed guidance regarding the content of a Supplementary Planning Document for Public Art. ixia goes beyond the common application of the public art funding mechanism, Percent for Art to:

  • place public art within the context of national, regional and local planning and other polices
  • describe the importance and creation of a vision for public art
  • identify sources of evidence that support the perceived benefits of public art
  • identify a definition and principles of good practice for public art
  • define and recommend practical actions that are integrated within the planning process that will enable good practice to take place

Further details: artists; arts, public art, planning and regeneration officers from local authorities; public art consultants; planning consultants; design professionals; and public and private sector commissioners are invited to attend. The workshop, including a copy of the guidance and lunch, will cost GBP155 per delegate. A limited number of discounted places are available for artists at all of the seminars - cost GBP30.
