Artfelt; new theatre extention project

Deadline: April 10, 2015, 5:00 pm

Artists are invited to send expressions of interest for artwork to go into the expanded theatres department currently being built at The Children’s Hospital in Sheffield. Artfelt, The Children’s Hospital Charity’s arts programme, is overseeing the arts strategy for the development and seeks high-quality art to help engage and uplift patients ahead of their treatment.

The project covers the new theatres extensions and the existing corridor, and will call on artists to use illustration, graphics or photography to create a welcoming space that links both cohesively.

Cat Powell, Artfelt manager, said: “Our surroundings have a powerful effect on how we feel, and that’s especially important in hospital where the environment can influence the wellbeing and comfort of our patients, visitors and staff.

“This project seeks to use the arts to offer something different and engaging for those children, and to help provide distraction for patients on their way to theatre and during anaesthesia.”

Project - Theatres and Existing Corridor

Specification - Use illustration, graphics or photography to enhance the existing corridors and two new anaesthetic suites.

Audience – Children aged 0 to 16, their carers and staff.

Suitability – Artists with a narrative style that can provide distraction for patients of all ages.

Budget – In the region of £10,000

More information can be found on the attached brief or online, click here. Expressions of interest should be received no later than 5pm on Friday, 10th April 2015.
