Commission for Public Art Map

Deadline: December 16, 2008

The Heads of the Valleys (HoV) Programme is a 15 year project to regenerate the five local authority areas at the heads of the valleys in Torfaen (northern part), Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly (northern part), Merthyr, and Rhondda-Cynon-Taff (northern part).

As part of the HoV regeneration programme, the HoV Board has agreed to bring about a coordinated, strategic approach to investment in Public Art across the area.  A Public Art Sub-group has been established to steer this, and it is under the aegis of this sub-group that this current brief is being issued.

The Sub-group wish to commission the preparation of a Public Art Guide Map of the Heads of the Valleys area. The end product envisaged is a composite series of maps to help visitors explore public art across the Heads of the Valleys to see how artists have contributed to the area to date.

The composite guide map is meant to help give a collective identity to the Public Art in place across the Heads of the Valleys as at 2008, to be update on a regular basis as more works are added over the next 21 years.
