Public art commission for Hood Road Medical Centre, Barry
Deadline: March 12, 2010
This is an exciting opportunity to make a creative and distinctive artwork to stand as a marker for a new, contemporary and state of the art GP Practice. People’s engagement with the artwork will be both from a distance and close up. The artwork should announce to passers by that there is a new medical centre at that location and a strong motif to symbolise healthcare would work well. However many people will have the opportunity to see the work at close quarters and the artwork should create a welcoming as well as thought provoking impression.
Themes and subjects for the artwork have not been set but the artwork should relate to the waterfront location and the fact that it sits in front of a new medical centre.
An important aspect of the design process will be to consult with the future staff of the Centre as well as collaborate closely with the developers. We also envisage that the artist will engage with the local schools and hold a small number of workshops related to the design process. The public art project manager would help to set up any workshops with local schools.
There is a budget of £20,000 +vat for the commission (to include fees, materials, labour, fabrication, delivery, site preparation, and installation). There is an additional budget of £1,150 +vat for the art workshops, which we envisage would cover 3 days of workshops.
