Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games public art programme

Date uploaded: January 5, 2009

As Host City for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, Vancouver has initiated a Public Art Program to commission artworks that reveal, surprise, challenge and celebrate Vancouver and the 2010 Winter Games.

The program aims to:

  • Commission artworks ranging from large legacy works to temporary, celebratory and community projects
  • Shape a collection of artworks that reflect the spirit of Vancouver and the pursuit of excellence that characterise the Olympic movement
  • Aspire to the highest level of creativity and excellence in public art-making
  • Engage the best artists, whether local, national or international

Vancouver’s Public Art Program provides for the incorporation of contemporary public art into civic and private developments. The program aims to foster artworks that express the spirit, values, visions, and poetry of place that collectively define Vancouver
