Year of the Artist update - Bob Butler
Year of the Artist in the South West
The Year of the Artist is well under way with dozens of exciting projects taking place throughout the South West. For a full list of these you should access the Year of the Artist Website at www.yota.org.uk - in fact, you should take a look at this site anyway because it contains many features which will be of interest to regional artists including a chat forum and a discussion group. The Year 'officially' kicked of at the Phoenix Art Centre in Exeter in June with the first Artist Showcase but this was just the first of several events which are planned throughout the Year. The next, and probably the most significant, is Right Here, Right Now, the YOTA Conference which takes place at the Watershed, Arnolfini and @Bristol on November 10th, 11th and 12th. This is looking at the ways in which the role of the artist is changing as we enter the new millennium and will cover such topics as collaborative art, site specific work, the links between art and science and art and the environment, the impact of new technology and new ways of presenting the arts to the public. Keep a look out too for 'Proof', the new Magazine edited by Bel Mooney, which will celebrate everything going on during this exciting Year.
