Ixia Update

ixia is currently recruiting a new Director and interim management consultant to take forward key strategic objectives at this exciting time in ixia's development. Emma Larkinson left in June after four years as Director and the Board would like to thank Emma for her exceptional work, commitment and energy which she invested in the organisation and to wish her success in the future. Lisa Vaughan started with ixia in April as Administrator.

The first stage of OPENspace's research, on assessing impact and quality in public art, has been completed and is available on the ixia website www.ixia-info.com.The second stage of the research is currently being developed and will be the focus of the next ixia forum event - 'How was it for you? Assessing the impact of artists' practice in the public realm', at the Mechanics Theatre, Manchester Road, Burnley, Lancashire on Tuesday 4th October 2005.

This event is for those engaged in the commissioning, production and mediation of public art and will explore the evaluation of public art practice, in the context of live projects. The agenda for the event will include presentations by Catharine Ward-Thompson. Director of OPENspace Research Centre, Nick Hunt, Director of Mid Pennine Arts and architects Tonkin Liu, who will talk about the Panopticons project. The day will also include a visit to one of the Panopticon sites and a plenary session. The day will be chaired by John Holden, Head of Culture at Demos, the national think tank.

The papers for the last forum event on 'Public Art ñ regeneration, diversity and engagement' are available on the website, www.ixia-info.com.

The latest ixia review includes articles by Katherine Clarke, Jane Watt, Simon Grennan and David Briers and is available through the website. The review is a quarterly collection contributing to the dialogue surrounding public art practice. Anna Douglas is presently researching the next ixia publication called 'Habitation, Environment and Community'. The current publication 'Desirable Places: artists' role in creating public places' is available to order from Central Books.
