Gardner House, Swindon
When Swindon Borough Council embarked on a refurbishment programme for Gardner House in 1998, the residents of this sheltered accommodation, were asked which area of their home they would most like to see benefit from the involvement of an artist. They unanimously voted for design input into the garden. Through slide shows, discussions with artists at their weekly coffee mornings and a visit to an inspirational garden featuring the work of local artists, the residents came up with a wish-list for an innovative and accessible garden at Gardner House. With the assistance of Swindon Borough Council officers, they interviewed a shortlist of artists from across the country to arrive at their chosen artist team.
The development of the garden designed by artists Dean and Jason Harvey is described and fully illustrated on Swindon Borough Council's website.
