Dialogue Project Evaluation
Independent Artists Network (IAN) was formed by Bristol artists Duncan Cameron, Neil Purcell and Clare Woods in 1999, with the aim of creating new opportunities for artists and finding ways of making the arts more accessible to the wider Bristol community. IAN's first project, workplace , took place during 2000 (Year of the Artist) and involved works by over 100 artists shown in a range of empty buildings in the city. workplace received much critical acclaim. A second project was planned which would build on the network of artists and organisations it had established.
This second project was dialogue . Thirteen new artworks were commissioned from artists from the UK and from Bristol's twin cities of Oporto and Hanover, that were responsive to Bristol's dockside either historically, philosophically, physically or conceptually. The two week programme from 5 to 20 July 2003 included a Symposium, Locational Identities , and an education programme for teachers, the Porthole Project .
A report based on both quantitative and qualitative research with artists, attenders, team members and funders was produced. It covers feedback from the participant artists, quantitative and qualitative evidence on attenders, funding, feedback from teachers on the educational strand, feedback on the symposium, marketing and press activity. It draws conclusions about the project and makes recommendations for future projects.
Appendices 1 - 4 cover details of the Dialogue team, Funders, Audience Survey form and Symposium feedback form. Appendices 5 - 8 include analysis of the Audience Survey, including charts, press/marketing strategy and press releases.
