Wellspring Healthy Living Centre
Summary
The £3.5 million Wellspring Healthy Living Centre in Barton Hill was managed by Community at Heart as part of the 10 year Bristol New Deal for Communities programme. The project was driven by the vision of a small group of residents who worked closely with the architects, Quattro Designs, artists, construction company and Bristol North Primary Care Trust over the course of four years. Dozens of local people were involved in events and workshops throughout the project.
Artists Marion Brandis, Lucy Casson, Mat Chivers, Julian Coode, Walter Jack Studio, Anne Smyth and Springboard Design were commissioned to work on different elements of the entrance courtyard, reception area and signage. Poet Ralph Hoyte worked with local residents to name the centre.
