Nexus - Art on Transport
Summary
Since 1977 Nexus, the passenger transport executive for Tyne and Wear, has operated a programme of public art commissions integrated within its capital construction projects, predominantly but not exclusively on the Tyne & Wear Metro. In 1996 Nexus adopted a Percent for Art policy. Since this policy was fully applied in 1999-2000 Nexus has funded permanent public artworks by Cath Campbell, Lucy Casson, Mike Clay/Fiona Rutherford, Richard Cole, Elinor Eastwood, Ron Haselden, Simon Jones/Rob Belilios, Danny Lane, Morag Morrison, Hilary Paynter, Michael Pinsky, Martin Richman, and Andrew Stonyer, as well as temporary commission projects responding to artists' initiatives.
