Greenhouse Britain: The 30 Year Now
Summary
The Harrison Studio was commissioned to draw up far-reaching proposals that address the issue of climate change in the Lee Valley in Essex. The resulting project, ‘The 30 Year NOW’, presents two upbeat suggestions: that the Lee Valley is extensively re-forested to hold water and carbon, produce oxygen and increase flora and fauna; and that great vertical structures with a small foot-print are built, containing apartments, amenities, gardens and food production facilities.
The greater purpose of the project is to assert the artist’s voice within current discussions and, more broadly, to begin to change the whole way we think about global warming. The style of presentation may not necessarily appeal to a wide audience, however.
The 30 Year Now was commissioned by Landscape+Arts Network Services through the Bright Sparks research and development awards, funded by Arts Council England as part of the Gunpowder Park project.
