Bath Spa Project
Water Features Project update
The Water Features Project, a programme of temporary and permanent artists' commissions as part of a public celebration of the restoration of Bath Spa and the development of a contemporary spa culture for the City of Bath, was awarded development funding in July 1999. However, due to subsequent changes in the Arts Council Lottery Capital scheme, specifically the demise of the CP1 scheme, the proposed project has been revised and streamlined in response to the dramatically reduced availability of production funds.
The revised proposal focuses on the commissioning of a major new work by project Lead Artist Vong Phaophanit at the site of the spa complex, supported by an associated programme of artists' residencies, exhibitions and outreach work. This proposal is currently under consideration by the Arts Council Lottery Department.
The following residency opportunities will be advertised nationally in the New Year:
-
Three 'Water Folly' Residencies
Artists' residencies in educational settings in Bath and North East Somerset exploring the idea of a contemporary Water Folly.
-
Film & Video Residency
For an artist working with film or video to create documentation on the subject of the Bath spa, its history, and users of the spa past and present.
The daily fee rate for both residencies is £200 per day.
Deadlines for applications Monday 31 January 2000.
Selection and appointments will be made in February 2000. The residencies will take place in March/April and an exhibition featuring resulting work will be shown at the Hotbath Gallery in May/june 2000.
