PASW Regional Newsletter: Spring 2000
Centre for Contemporary Art and the Natural World
Poltimore House, East Devon, 2002
Since the last update, CCANW's open invitation to artists and makers to respond to commissioning opportunities resulted in 290 submissions. From these, a shortlist; Bruce Allan, Christopher Bucklow, Thomas A. Clark, Matthew Dalziel and Louise Scullion, Rebecca Earley, Angus Fairhurst, Alec Finlay, Anya Gallacio, Peter Randall-Page, Shelagh Wakely, Pak Keung Won have visited Poltimore and met the panel, lead artist Garry Fabian-Miller, architect and landscape architects. A final selection will soon be made who will then develop and cost their proposals.
The progress of the development study, of which artists' commissions is a part, has suffered some delays during the year, but our conservation architects have now completed their survey from which Richard Murphy will soon be presenting design options. A grant from English Heritage covering 80% of the fees relating to conservation planning has been added to funding from the Arts Lottery, East Devon District Council and the RSA. The landscape architecture practice of Gross Max have been appointed to draw up plans for the gardens and consultants dealing with business planning, Russell Southwood, and education, Sue Clive and Laura Denning, have now joined the study.
