Biography: Andrew Tye
Born UK 17th July 1968
After graduating from Kingston University in 1990 Andrew Tye went on to work as a designer for renowned craftsman John Makepeace.
Tye launched as an independent furniture designer in 1995. Designs include his furniture Collection, one-off commissions, architectural installations, and consultancy for projects. The studio and prototyping workshop are located in London's East End.
Tye has received Awards from the Crafts Council, the Sainsbury Scholarship Award, a commendation in the Scottish Design Awards and been Finalist at The FX International Design Awards.
His work is sold by galleries in London, New York and Paris, and he has been commissioned to design by prestigious clients such as Ralph Lauren, and Nicole Farhi. His designs are exhibited internationally including the UK, USA, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
Tye often utilises modular systems in his designs to create work that could be described as 'functional sculpture'. Utilising a wide range of materials and manufacturing processes, Tye's designs are inspired by his love of materials and making processes and by his interest in structure and geometry.
