Cabrillo Marine Aquarium San Pedro, California
For the expansion of this Frank O. Gehry designed facility Millar is producing an artist's book to examine issues related to changing cultural artifacts.
San Diego County Water Authority San Diego, California
Millar created a fountain for the new headquarters of this public agency.
Advanced Water Treatment Plant San Diego, California
Was responsible for the creation of a conceptual design for this state-of-the-art project which would convert reclaimed water from the sewage system to drinking water. The project was awarded a Progressive Architecture Citation. Collaborators: Guthrie+Buresh Architecture, Estrada Land Planning, Malcolm Pirnie Inc.
Alvarado Water Treatment Facility San Diego, California
Collaborating on all aspects of this $170 million water project. It was awarded Project of the Year by the American Public Works Association. Collaborators: Malcolm Pirnie Inc., Richard Brady & Associates, Platt/Whitelaw Architects, Estrada Land Planning.
Metropolitan Transportation Authority, Metro Rail Station, Vermont/Santa Monica Blvd. Los Angeles, California
Millar's work focused on the architectural design of the station entrance and urban design issues of the station plaza. The project was awarded a Progressive Architecture Citation in 1991. In 2000, Millar's entrance was awarded an Honorable Mention for Best Environmental Design by ID Magazine. In 2001, the project was awarded an AIA Honor Award. Grand Avenue Plaza Los Angeles, California
Collaborated on the design of the public spaces for Plaza Center, a $500 million office development proposed for downtown Los Angeles. Collaborators: Doug Hollis.
Waterfront Park Santa Barbara, California
Lead a team of local artists in the creation of a number of artworks for this park and proposed a water feature for the central plaza.
Northridge Pavilion Los Angeles, California
Proposed a sound fountain for the public space of this shopping center. Collaborators: Calvin R. Abe & Associates.
Rose Theatre Site London, England
Created a work on the site of the historic Rose Theatre.
City of Newport Beach Newport Beach, California
Installed a four-site temporary work that required and maintained the cooperation of the California Department of Fish and Game, the City of Newport Beach, the Irvine Company, and the Newport Harbor Art Museum.
California Department of Parks and Recreation
Wrote the Master Plan for the integration of artists into the design process of California 's State Parks.
Bronowski Residence La Jolla, California
Created a site-related work at the home of Rita Bronowski by the removal of plants.
Maxfield West Hollywood, California
Created a site-related work in the courtyard of this Los Angeles clothing store.
For a period of twelve years Robert Millar consulted to architects on the lighting of public and private spaces. His collaborations included projects with the architectural firms of Frank Gehry, Charles Moore, Joseph D'Urso, and Mark Mack.
